Liquid Cell Reconditioning: A sealed liquid infrared cell consists of one drilled front window, one undrilled rear window, a front lead gasket, a rear neoprene gasket and a lead or copper spacer which is sandwiched in between the two crystals. This spacer determines the “pathlength” of the cell.
Upon receipt of your cell, ICL decides whether the cell requires complete window replacement, partial window replacement or complete repolished reconditioning. The following conditions determine the type of reconditioning:
Complete replacement reconditioning is when ICL replaces both the drilled and undrilled windows with new windows. See Polished Crystal Price List to determine the cost of new replacement windows.
Partial replacement reconditioning is when ICL replaces one window (whether drilled or undrilled) with a new window and the other window is repolished. See Polished Crystal Price List to determine the cost of the new replacement window and see Repolished Crystal Price List to determine the cost of repolishing.
Full repolished reconditioning is when ICL repolishes both windows. See Repolished Crystal Price List to determine cost of repolishing each window.
All cells are disassembled and reassembled for a fixed cost at almost any pathlength. The standard pathlengths are 0.015mm, 0.025mm, 0.05mm, 0.1mm, 0.2mm, 0.5mm, and 1mm. In the event a pathlength greater than 1mm is required, a nominal cost is added to the price of reconditioning.
ICL recommends calibration of cells or calibration and matching of cells. Cell calibrations are to 4 decimal places (e.g. 0.1124mm). Cells must be calibrated before being matched. ICL’s matched cells are within +/-3% of each other. Cells that are not calibrated can vary as much as 10% from the nominal pathlength. It is recommended that all cells be calibrated. This service is provided at a nominal cost.
Long Path Gas Cell Reconditioning consists of replacing the mirrors and transfer optics, cleaning the interior of the cell body and replacing any seals or valves that are damaged. All long path gas cells reconditioning is done on the basis of quote given to the customer after we receive and examine the cell. Purchase orders should accompany the cell and there should be an written explanation of any repair that might not be obvious to us, such as any valves or seals known to be defective. If we find undisclosed valve or seal leaks while doing final testing of the cell there may be an additional charge.
Shipping Instructions: Cells sent to ICL for reconditioning should be addressed to: 11 Erie Street, Garfield, NJ 07026, USA
Foreign Orders: When shipping cells or crystals for repair from points outside of the United States, please write on outside of package: “Goods are of American manufacture being sent for repair and to be returned to sender.” Also, please ship via air mail parcel post to avoid customs broker fees and to speed receipt. Do not declare total value of more than $195.00. We do not pay customs charges for cells sent to us for reconditioning.
ICL cannot change the pathlength of any cell without disassembly, repolishing or replacement of windows and reassembly.
